Information on aged care fees
Understand daily charges, accommodation costs and government assistance so you and your family can make informed decisions about residential aged care.
Understanding aged care fees
Residential aged care fees are set by the Australian Government. Depending on your income and assets, you may receive subsidies to reduce your costs. This support can make aged care more affordable by covering part of your means-tested care fee or accommodation costs.
For more information, visit the My Aged Care website or call 1800 200 422
How much will I pay?
Your costs will depend on the type of room you choose and the location of the aged care home.
To find out your specific fees, call 1800 951 123 (press 2 when prompted), or contact us directly.

Types of fees explained
All residents pay a daily care fee. This covers everyday living costs such as meals, electricity, laundry, personal and nursing care.
Most residents pay the standard fee, which is set at 85% of the Age Pension single rate. The amount is reviewed twice a year in March and September, in line with pension changes.
Some residents may pay an extra contribution toward the cost of care.
Services Australia calculates this based on your income and assets. To help determine your eligibility, complete the following forms on the Services Australia website:
- Residential Aged Care Calculation of your cost of care (SA457)
- Residential Aged Care Property details for Services Australia and DVA customers (SA485)
Your fee amount may change over time, as Services Australia reviews your circumstances. Annual and lifetime caps also apply to limit how much you pay.
This fee covers the cost of your accommodation in the aged care home.
If your means are below the Government threshold, your accommodation may be partly or fully covered. If not, you may be asked to pay the published price for your chosen aged care home.
Mission Australia offers different ways to pay:
-
Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD): A lump sum payment that reduces ongoing costs. The RAD is fully refunded when you leave.
-
Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP): A daily fee billed monthly. Not refundable. Often chosen for short stays or if you prefer not to pay a lump sum.
-
Combination (RAD + DAP): Pay part as a lump sum and part daily. Only the RAD portion is refunded.
-
Drawdown option: Use part of your RAD to pay the DAP, with the balance refunded when you leave.
You have 28 days from your entry date to choose a payment option. Until then, the DAP will apply.
Government subsidies cover most of your care and accommodation, but extra lifestyle and wellbeing services may attract a small daily fee.
If you are a low-means resident, Mission Australia may subsidise these additional service fees. Terms and conditions apply.
All costs and services are detailed in your residential aged care agreement. Our team will discuss these with you before you move in.
