Our founding purpose
Inspired by Jesus Christ, Mission Australia exists to
meet human need and to spread the knowledge of the love of God.
Inspired by faith. Serving all Australians.
Mission Australia was founded more than 165 years ago by Christians from many denominations. Today, we remain a non-denominational Christian charity. We work alongside people of all backgrounds, cultures and beliefs to pursue our vision: an Australia where everyone has a safe home and can thrive.
What this means in practice
We live out our founding purpose in three simple ways:
Inclusive support
We serve all Australians, without discrimination.
Stronger together
We work alongside people to build lasting change.
Guided by faith
Our heritage inspires us to act with compassion, integrity, and respect.
Holistic and inclusive in our mission
Mission Australia meets physical and spiritual needs, caring for the whole person. We believe every person is made in the image of God, uniquely gifted and valued. We serve all Australians, regardless of background or faith, and we are committed to reconciliation with First Nations peoples. Our diverse staff reflect this calling, while our leaders model our Christian identity with integrity, humility and care.
Our work is guided by five enduring values that shape how we serve and support people.
How we strive to serve as a Christian organisation
Inspired by Jesus, we focus on empowering people to overcome disadvantage, build resilience, and experience true wellbeing. We offer pastoral care, strengthen families and communities, and advocate for justice. With integrity and accountability, we steward resources to create lasting impact.
