Mission Australia Youth Survey

For 25 years, Australia's largest annual survey of young people has provided insight into the issues, challenges and aspirations shaping young lives.

About the Mission Australia Youth Survey

The Mission Australia Youth Survey is Australia's largest annual survey of young people aged 14 to 19. Each year, thousands of young people share their views on issues affecting their lives, communities and futures. The findings provide valuable evidence to support research, advocacy and decision-making on matters impacting young Australians.

What mattered to young people in 2025?

In the Mission Australia Youth Survey 2025, young people again named cost of living as the most important issue in Australia, with 64% citing it as their top concern - an all-time high. Mental health, climate change and the environment, and housing and homelessness were also seen as major national issues.

On a personal level, school or study, time management, and mental health are key stressors, yet many young people feel able to handle life’s challenges and remain hopeful about their futures.

27%

Climate change and the environment

25%

Housing and homelessness

Young people are telling us that the strain of rising prices and not having money for basic essentials is taking a toll on their mental health and their outlook on life.

We want our young people to know that we are listening and are grateful to them sharing a part of their lives with us.
