First tenants move into Common Ground East Perth
A new chapter in addressing chronic homelessness in Western Australia has begun, with the first tenants moving into Common Ground Perth in East Perth.
The milestone was celebrated with a small ceremony, followed by the unveiling of a plaque.

A ceremony marks the official opening of Common Ground Perth and the arrival of its first tenants.
A purpose-built model supporting long-term housing and independence
Built on the belief that everyone deserves a safe home and the support to live an independent, fulfilling life, Common Ground Perth offers a purpose-built, permanent supported housing solution for adults experiencing long-term homelessness and complex needs.
The 17-storey development features 112 self-contained apartments, alongside communal spaces, commercial areas and 24/7 on-site support.
Many apartments are reserved for people who have experienced prolonged periods of rough sleeping, in some cases for years.
Integrated housing and tailored support services
Common Ground is unique in its integrated model, providing housing and tailored support services simultaneously.
Residents will have access to case management, healthcare, wellbeing services and pathways to education, training and employment — ensuring they are supported not just into housing, but into stability and independence.

Mission Australia’s role in delivering Common Ground Perth
Mission Australia will serve as Housing Manager and Tenancy Support Provider, building on its experience delivering the successful Common Ground Sydney model established in Camperdown in 2011.
Peer support and tenant voice at the centre
A key feature is on-site Peer Support Workers.
Drawing on lived experience of homelessness, these workers play a vital role in building trust, supporting tenants through the transition into permanent housing, and fostering a sense of community and belonging.
A Tenant Forum, led by Peer Support Workers, will further empower residents by embedding tenant voice in service design and delivery.

Shared communal spaces at Common Ground Perth support connection, wellbeing and a sense of belonging.
A significant step forward in addressing homelessness in WA
Mission Australia State Director WA Sue Budalich said the project represents a significant step forward.
“Mission Australia is proud to deliver tenancy support services at the new East Perth Common Ground,” Ms Budalich said.
“This development represents hope, opportunity and a shared commitment to ensuring that everyone has a place to call home.
“People come to Common Ground with different stories and experiences. “What they share is a desire for stability and a place to belong.
“Common Ground provides permanent housing within an inclusive community, with support close by for those who want it.
“It recognises that housing is the starting point for wellbeing, connection and opportunity to thrive.”
