Mission Australia is celebrating World Gratitude Day by thanking its donors for their generous support of the charity’s efforts to end homelessness and build hope and possibility for all.

What is Gratitude Day?

On 18 September, Mission Australia staff across the country will celebrate the national charity’s first-ever Gratitude Day by personally reaching out to supporters to express appreciation for their kindness and the meaningful impact their generosity has had on people experiencing hardship nationwide.

In 2023-24, Mission Australia supported 160,520 people in Australia through 477 services and provided accommodation and support for tenants in its 4,550 social and affordable homes.

Thanking our supporters

Mission Australia CEO Sharon Callister said, “On Gratitude Day, I want to sincerely thank all our supporters. Your trust, compassion, and commitment drive us every day and help us to make a real difference in people’s lives.

“Saying ‘thank you’ may seem simple, but it holds great power. It’s a genuine way to honour the kindness of all those whose generosity fuels our work.”

The impact of donations

“Donations from our supporters touch the lives of thousands across the country; they may provide a home to a woman and her children seeking safety from domestic and family violence, offer hope to someone facing addiction, or create a supportive space for a young person to live, learn and grow.

“With rents rising, affordable housing scarce and the cost of essentials increasing, demand for our homelessness services grew by 19% over the past year. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we can respond to this growing need and provide vital support to those who need it most.

“Every donor, whether they’ve been a supporter of Mission Australia for years or have just started their journey with us, is helping to make a positive impact on the lives of people across the country.

“Donations to and support for Mission Australia help us provide more safe and secure homes, reach more people in need and strengthen our services so we can continue meeting the growing challenges facing Australia.

“I look forward to Gratitude Day becoming an annual tradition. It’s a special day to reflect on and celebrate the incredible community of supporters who make our work possible.”
