Corporate governance

Our approach to governance

Mission Australia exists to meet human need and to spread the knowledge of the love of God. In conducting our affairs and services to end homelessness and ensure people and communities can thrive, we are guided by our values: compassion, integrity, respect, perseverance and celebration.

Mission Australia and its controlled entities, including Mission Australia Housing companies in Victoria, Tasmania and the Northern Territory (collectively the Mission Australia Group), are committed to effective corporate governance. We constantly seek to maximise efficiency and effectiveness, while keeping clients at the centre of everything we do.

Each Mission Australia Group company is a registered charity regulated by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) and applies the ACNC Governance Standards. The Mission Australia Board has overall responsibility for the financial performance of the Group and the achievement of its founding purpose. The Board recognises its role in overseeing policies and processes that reflect good governance aligned with the ACNC Governance Standards, our contractual commitments and stakeholder expectations.

Where practicable and relevant, we are also guided by the Corporate Governance Principles and Recommendations established by the ASX Corporate Governance Council.

Enterprise risk and assurance

The Board Audit and Risk Committee provides oversight of Mission Australia’s Enterprise Risk and Assurance Framework. This framework strengthens our sustainability, ensures compliance with regulatory and ethical standards, and helps us identify and manage risks so we can continue serving Australians in need with confidence.

Governance of Mission Australia Housing

Mission Australia is the sole member of Mission Australia Housing entities in Victoria, Tasmania, and the Northern Territory.

Each housing company benefits from the shared governance and oversight of Mission Australia’s Board and Committees. They also seek to meet or exceed the National Community Housing Standards and comply with the National Performance Standards.
